| Indicative Procurement Plan for Financial Year 2008 - 2009 Mission & Objectives of the Government Printing Department The Purpose of the Government Printing Department is to offer efficient printing services to its clients such that their needs in terms of quality, variety and specificity are met. The printing of security materials whose confidential nature must be respected and is in the public interest, is also entrusted to the Department. This aspect of the work cannot be overemphasized. The Financial Management Manual makes provision to the fact that orders placed on the Government Printing Department have to be made 3 months before they are likely to be required. The range of products of the Printing Department varies from the small business card to the huge registers used by the Registrar General’s Department. This includes the printing of Annual Reports of Ministries/Departments, reports of official commissions and boards, and of the Government Gazette. Printing work is also carried out in connection with the proceedings of the National Assembly. Services offered to other ministries/departments Situated at La Tour Koening in the outskirt of Port Louis, the Government Printing Department offers free printing and binding services to all government Ministries and Departments as well as to para-statal organizations on a paid-basis. The Department also offers services in graphic-design, i.e the creation of logos, posters and the like. The main items ordered from the Department consist of the printing of forms required by government departments, annual reports of departments, reports of official committees, commission and boards and the Government Gazette. Revenue of the Department is mainly derived from the sale of publications at its suboffice, situated at 38 Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Street in Port Louis (Tel. 242 0231 & 242 0233). Services to the Public The following services are offered to the public: | 1 | Sale of publications | | 2 | Insertion of legal and other notices in the Government Gazette | | 3 | Sale of Government Notices | | 4 | Subscription to the Government Gazette | | 5 | Despatching of Government Gazette and other publications | Other Services offered (i) Printing of Security materials such as Ballot Papers, Government Lottery, payable orders, etc. (ii) Maintaining a Government Gazette subscription for the public (such a subscription is available to clients upon a payment of Rs 350 yearly) Staff of the Department The responsible head of the Government Printing Department is the Government Printer. He is assisted in the discharge of his duties by a Deputy Government Printer and an Assistant Government Printer.
